Mechanical Facilities Engineer

The Mechanical Facilities Engineer will design HVAC, Plumbing/Piping systems and Process Lines for a wide range of client projects. This position will be a key member of a multi-disciplinary engineering team producing project design packages of calculations, drawings, and specifications. The position includes a leadership component with task assignment and work coordination with engineers, designers, equipment manufacturers, and client Project Managers. Periodic travel to project site locations will be required. Starting salary range$88-122K depending on experience. Please submit resume for immediate consideration.


  • Bachelor of Sciences in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET Accredited Program is required. Engineering Technology degree will not be considered.
  • Minimum four (4) years of experience
  • PE License required with the ability and willingness to register in multiple states.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience in HVAC and plumbing/piping systems design and associated engineering calculations (e.g., Air-handling systems, laboratory fume hood exhaust air systems, duct systems, heating and chilled water hydronic piping systems, natural gas piping systems, domestic water and wastewater piping systems, steam and condensate piping systems, compressed air systems, and mechanical system controls).
  • Experience in sizing and selecting HVAC and plumbing/piping equipment (e.g. air-handling units, fans/blowers, pumps, cooling towers, chillers, boilers, coils, HEPA filtration systems, dampers, valves, and controls).
  • Knowledge of manufacturing and industrial process line design.
  • Proficient in editing and writing mechanical construction and equipment specifications.
  • Experience using HVAC computer load and design programs such as Trane Trace software.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD. Building information modeling software (BIM) is strongly desired.
  • Working knowledge of ASHRAE, SMACNA, and NFPA standards.
  • Working knowledge of IBC, IMC, and IPC codes.

  • Plan, conduct, and coordinate detailed phases of HVAC, Plumbing, and Process design work with calculations. Process flow diagrams, piping, and instrumentation diagrams. Layout of equipment and associated supporting systems, and sequences of operations.
  • Develop mechanical construction and equipment specifications, and system design descriptions.
  • Perform engineering quality assurance checks of project designs.
  • Support new project proposals with mechanical discipline scopes, budget estimates, and schedules.
  • Work with Project Managers to select manufactures and equipment for best system performance, life cycle, and initial costs.
  • Observe new construction and modification work to ensure compliance with contract documents, equipment specifications, and industry standards.
  • Apply knowledge and experience in troubleshooting and repair of systems.
